Dave Ward is new T&D
manager
Tacoma Power Superintendent Gary Armfield selected Dave Ward as
Transmission & Distribution manager starting November 1. Dave has been an
assistant manager in T&D since 1996 and served as interim T&D manager for
six months last year. His experience, leadership skills and solid
understanding of the T&D organization, combined with his many other
qualifications, made him an ideal choice for the job. In addition to his new
management role, Dave also has begun working on plans to fill his former
position as assistant manager for T&D Engineering.
Former Energy Services employee passes away
Vivian Arter — wife of Tom Arter, Transmission & Distribution, and a former
Energy Services employee — passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 30. A
memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 6, at 1 p.m. at the
Evergreen Chapel at New Tacoma Cemetery. A reception will follow at the
AmVets upper hall, 5717 S. Tyler Street, next to Moctezuma's on S. 56th and
Tyler.
Electrical outlets installed for PHEV use; overflow to Lot D
Installation of electrical outlet pedestals for recharging TPU’s planned
plug-in hybrid electrical vehicle fleet will begin on Monday, November 5,
and last about five days. The 11 TPU vehicles previously parked along the
south side of the Administration Building, including the convenience pool
vehicles, will be moved to Lot D during this project. Employee parking in
Lot D will be reduced accordingly. Remember that Lot G up on the 35th Street
hill is now available, even during pedestrian bridge construction, as long
as employees park away from construction activities and equipment.
Korean Electric Power
Company visits TPU
Staff from Korean Electric Power Company met with staff from Customer
Service, Tacoma Power and the Enterprise Application Support Division on
Friday, November 2, to discuss how TPU is
using SAP’s customer care system and learn more about Tacoma Power’s Gateway
Project. Four people, including an interpreter, spent the day on-site,
observing call center activities. Staff from SAP and past visiting national
and international utilities have commented on Customer Service’s high degree
of professionalism, finding it the high point of their visits. |

SAP
support pack application postponed
During
the final SAP support pack testing phase last week, EASD staff discovered
that application of the packs could cause critical production
errors. EASD is currently working with SAP, but until we have a resolution,
the support pack application will be delayed. We apologize for any
inconvenience this might have caused. We will keep you apprised of the revised
implementation schedule. If you have questions, contact
Bradd Busick, 382-2665.

Blood
drive coming on Friday, November 16
"Countess Vampira" Viv Leach, Finance, asks people to come to the
Auditorium Conference Room on November
16 to donate blood. Each unit of blood can give the gift of life to three
people. With the holiday season upon us, the need for blood is even
greater. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, have a hearty breakfast and
skip the caffeine. Contact
Viv, 591-5539, for an appointment.
Blanket drive added many warm bodies to our community
TPU employees responded to the Community Connection blanket drive in a way
that would make Linus proud. In the last half of October, TPU employees
donated 75 blankets, most of them new, for an estimated value of $1,650. The
blanket donations will be split between Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and
the Lakewood Area Shelter Association. Many families who receive assistance
in Lakewood literally have nothing, and the new blankets and bedding will
comfort them as we enter the winter months.

For Your Benefit
November is Diabetes Awareness Month — Consult your doctor about symptoms
Early diabetes symptoms can be subtle or seemingly harmless — if you have
them at all. In fact, you could have diabetes for months or even years and
not know it. In the United States alone, more than six million people are
unaware that they have diabetes, according to the American Diabetes
Association. Understanding possible diabetes symptoms can lead to early
diagnosis and treatment, and a lifetime of better health. For more detailed
information, visit
