Public Utility Board results for November 14
All items passed during the Public Utility Board meeting on November 14, except the three-year contract to General Pacific for 23kV 900 ampere pole-mounted gang-operated distribution switches ($132,336, tax not included), which was removed from the agenda until it is appropriate to bring back.

Support packs successfully moved into SAP last weekend
IT/EASD moved SAP support packs into the production system last weekend, successfully updating the system for year-end. Your flexibility and patience has been greatly appreciated during this critical time. You might notice some changes. For information on the following, visit the IT/EASD CityWeb site, or contact Network Support, 591-2057:

  • Hyperlink feature in notifications and orders If you insert hyperlinks to supporting documentation in work orders and notifications, you will no longer be able to do this in “Create” mode. The “Services for Objects” button is no longer available in the “Create” transactions for notifications or work orders (IW21, IW51 and IW31). To create a link between supporting documentation and your work order or notification, save the document and go into “Change” mode (IW22, IW52 or IW32).
  • Work orders that generate notifications If your work orders automatically generate notifications in the background, the “Reported by” field, located under the “Notif Dates” tab on the “Header Data” tab will need to be populated. If this data has not been entered prior to saving the work order, SAP will prompt you to complete the mandatory fields.
  • Workflow refresh — An extra step might be needed to refresh the workflow list in your business workplace.

Incentive goal update — 37 percent is less than half of what we need!
Just 37 percent of employees have turned in their community involvement hours for the Employee Incentive Plan. That number needs to bump up to 80 percent by December 31 for anyone to receive credit! Fill out a hard copy form in Human Resources or submit your community involvement hours on CityWeb under Departments/TPU/TPU Incentive Program.

Cafeteria football contest includes Apple Cup vote . . . and apple prizes for the winners!
The winner in week 10 of the Cafeteria football contest was Debbie Kienast, Building Maintenance, with 11 of 14 correct. Debbie tied with Lori Phillips, Customer Services, but Debbie won the tiebreaker and with it, the Cafeteria food card and entry into the Super Bowl contest. The winner for week 11 will be posted Tuesday morning. Ballots for week 12 are in the Cafeteria and must be turned in by Wednesday, November 21, at 4 p.m. (early because of the Thanksgiving break). One entry per person per week. The person who picks the most winners each week earns a $10 Cafeteria food card and an entry in the Super Bowl contest at the end of the season. The winner of the Super Bowl contest takes home a $50 gift card to the Outback Steakhouse. Also this week, cast your vote and win a free apple if you pick the winner of the Apple Cup, taking place on Saturday, November 24. Come to the Cafeteria and get a red Cougar ticket or a purple Husky ticket by Wednesday. If your team wins, you get an apple the following week. Choose your team! One ticket per person.

How to use SAP transactions to review time and trips, November 30
Managers and supervisors are invited to enter the SAP time machine on Friday, November 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the TPU Computer Training Room. Do you want to learn how to “travel” around SAP with ease? In addition to receiving time and trip approvals in your SAP inbox, you can become an experienced time traveler by learning tips and tricks for these two fantastic transactions:

  • CATS_APPR_LITE: Has everything you need to analyze attendance and absence types for your whole work group or a single employee. You can see, for example, how much overtime you have incurred to date.

  • PR05: Gives you the ability to review and/or approve past or present trips for your employees. Current trips flow to your SAP inbox; however, with PR05, you can see a bigger picture.

If you are an adventurous manager or supervisor, RSVP now for this popular session by sending an e-mail request to IT/SAP Training, or contact Stephanie Judy, 382-2797.

Employee’s son, a U.S. Marine, thanks Operation TPU for package
The idea for Operation TPU grew out of the Community Connection retreat in October, and it has grown legs rather quickly. Marylynn Eltrich, Transmission & Distribution, is collecting items to send monthly packages to TPU employees or family members involved in the war efforts. The son of Mike Sweet, Generation, is a Marine who recently received a package, and he sent along his thanks: “Hey . . . I got the package from your work. Lots of great stuff. We were all excited in opening it. Some DVDs, books and, of course, food. I also got this game called Sudoku, which is probably the most addicting game ever. Be sure to thank everyone very much on behalf of all of us here.” If you would like to contribute to the next package that’s sent out, check here for a list of suggested items, and contact Marylynn Eltrich, 396-3049.

Family appreciated bed donations
When a family put in a recent request with Greater Lakes Mental Health for two twin beds, TPU and General Government employees sprang into action. Three different employees donated the necessary bed frames, box springs, mattresses and bedding. Debbie Tainer, Information Technology, who organized the effort, reports that the family was very appreciative. Before the donation, the family of four had only two beds — now everyone is sleeping comfortably!

Holiday beanies still available
Community Connection has just a few beanies left, and they are perfect for the holidays. Come grab your beanie bear boy and girl couple with the pumpkins or the bear dressed as a turkey for the perfect hostess gift. Beanies are only $6, and proceeds benefit Community Connection. Contact Erika Tucci, 502-8225, or stop by her desk in Community & Media Services to grab your beanie today!

One employee eligible for donated PTO or sick leave
Dennis Johnson, Building Maintenance, is eligible to receive donated PTO or sick leave. To donate, contact your timekeeper or Public Utilities Human Resources, 502‑8158, for a PTO/sick leave donation form. You also can download the form from the Human Resources section of CityWeb.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month — Physical activity and diabetes
Diabetes means that your blood glucose (also called blood sugar) is too high. Your body uses glucose for energy. But having too much glucose in your blood can hurt you. When you take care of your diabetes, you'll feel better and reduce your risk for problems with kidneys, eyes, nerves, feet, legs and teeth. You'll also lower your risk for a heart attack or a stroke. One way you can take care of your diabetes is by being physically active. Research has shown that physical activity can improve your body’s ability to use insulin. Physical activity also plays an important part in preventing type 2 diabetes. A major government study, the Diabetes Prevention Program, showed that a healthy diet and a moderate exercise program resulting in a five to seven percent weight loss can delay and possibly prevent type 2 diabetes. Check the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse Web site to find out more, including what kinds of physical activity can help you, and how to take the first steps toward beginning an exercise program appropriate for you.
