Wanna make 30 bucks? Recycle your old icebox
Starting August 1, Tacoma Power and Puget Sound Energy are offering
customers $30 to ditch their old refrigerators and freezers, and here’s the
kicker — the utilities will haul them away for free and safely recycle the
units! Older refrigerators and freezers require up to five times more power
than newer models, and the insulation and refrigerant products can release
harmful, ozone-depleting chlorofluorocarbons into the atmosphere. Besides
having cash in pocket, participating customers also will save up to $200 on
their annual electric bills, the average cost of electricity wasted annually
by old fridges and freezers. To schedule a pickup, call JACO Environmental
at 877-299-0510 or visit
www.jacoinc.net. Units must be
in running order and at least 10 cubic feet in volume.
