Famous Goodbyes
Who said it? Match the quote with the speaker:
"Parting is such sweet sorrow." Munchkins to the Good Witch of the North
"G'bye! G'bye! G'bye!" Rick to Ilsa in Casablanca
"Here's looking at you, kid." Tour Guide Barbie in Toy Story"Bah-BYE! BAH-bye. Bah-BYE! BAH-bye." Juliet to Romeo
Now add your voice to these as we all say goodbye to Newsline as we knew it. Based on what we learned from employee focus groups earlier this year, Community & Media Services has made some changes - you'll notice we switched our trademark slash for an ampersand, to start.
Beginning Monday, July 30, Newsline will be a Web-based, color publication, with a link e-mailed to employees and others on the mailing list. We'll still print some copies and place them in the Cafeteria and other locations. We'll also cut down on the repetition of information and produce Newsline only on Mondays, with items running once in the main news sections, then bumping to the calendar portion if time-sensitive. And you'll be seeing a lot less clip art, so bid adieu to waving man above, while you're at it. Starting today, the deadline to submit items by e-mail to newsline@cityoftacoma.org will be 10 a.m. on Fridays. If you don't have e-mail access, you may call editor Laurel Willoughby, 502-8754, to submit items.
We hope you find the new Newsline more engaging and fun - but most of all, useful. Our monthly publication is also in the chair for a makeover, so watch for the August Ubits to show up in your home mail box soon. And later this fall, CMS will launch an intranet site that's geared specifically to TPU employees.
On Monday, stop by the Cafeteria at breakfast or lunch to see the new Newsline and get a preview of the new Ubits. Editor Laurel Willoughby, Community & Media Services, will be on hand to hear what you think and answer questions about the changes.
A little bit of weekly news thrown in: Heck, we're not completely draconian (for the non-Websterites among us, that's cruel or severe). We knew you couldn't get by without knowing what's for lunch next week, so the Cafeteria menu for July 30 to August 3 is printed below. Also, if you plan to work this weekend, July 28 and 29, avoid parking near the Power Warehouse Building. The Paint Shop will be pressure washing the larger part of the warehouse roof. Oh, and the answers above? Get out and see a movie, why don't you?
